Adventure Block Swap

Guidelines

The Adventure Block Swap is all about having fun and making for friends. Here are some guidelines and the participant requirements.

This swap is available for free to all paid memberships of FRMQG.

Read below then (link coming soon!) to access the Google Form and submit your design. Please also list any months in 2020 you already know you will not be able to participate.

  1. Each participant selects and submits a block design. Recommended designs must be accessible for free to other participants in the swap, so no purchased/licensed/magazine designs, please. If you designed a block and own its copyright exclusively, it is allowed in the swap provided you make it accessible to other participants at no cost.

  2. Blocks must be less then 15" square. Please say if you want the blocks left untrimmed, meaning do not square them to size. If you select a design that is 4, 5" square blocks but you want them left un-sewn, be sure to say that. You can also make an example of your block as you want to receive it from participants and provide a photo to the swap coordinator.

  3. Swap participants can reference the Swap Calendar to see whose block to make each month. You can make the whole year's worth of blocks right away or make month-to-month. Please be aware that REAL LIFE can sneak up on us all, and participants may need to freeze or cancel enrollment in the swap, meaning the calendar would change. It is recommended not to make more then three months ahead and to have patience/understanding for those that have unforeseen events come up.

  4. Bring your block to the monthly meeting or arrange for its delivery to the swap coordinator, Ginger. The Swap Calendar accounts for guild events that skip months in the year. In 2022 we will not have a meeting in December, our annual sew-in only.

  5. IF you fall behind a month, the swap coordinator will let you know you are behind, if you fall behind two months your participation will be frozen. Please make the blocks needed to catch-up then speak with the swap coordinator to unfreeze your enrollment.

General Tips

The best block designs will be easy and quick to make. Once you select a block make it yourself and see how quickly it comes together. If the instructions are confusing or complicated, maybe select a different design or see if a more streamline set of directions exist. If you need to write your own tutorial, please provide that to the swap coordinator for posting in the Block Links section.

You can direct the color, size, and the fabric style you want for your blocks, BUT know this swap is more about getting something made with love from a friend. Good directions for color and fabric style are "warm neutrals, pops of color, prints ok but no batiks or novelty, etc.".
