Regular Meeting

April 7, 2022

President Tim Belton KK4DTT called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM.

There were 28 members and 4 visitors present.

Minutes from the March 3, 2021 radio club meeting were read and approved.

Philip Julian KG4NVN presented the Treasury Report dated 4/7/22.

Savings - $4004.98 Checking: - $899.51

Jimmy Owens W4JHO talked about potential plans for a club sponsored POTA activation

later in the year. By a show of hands, most of the club expressed interest. Jimmy will

report plans for a club event as they develop.

The program A Status Report on the 444 Linked Repeater System was presented by Alan

McClain KA4BNI. This generated a lot of interest and discussion. Four locations are in

place and fully operational. Future plans include adding locations and possibly

establishing linking into our 147.210 weather net during times of weather emergency.

West Tennessee Amateur Radio Society Special Meeting November 1, 2018

President Tim Belton KK4DTT called the meeting to order at 6:30 PM.

The early start time was due to the length of the special SkywarnTM Training Program to be presented by Gary Woodall from the National Weather Service in Memphis.

No club business was conducted. After the presentation, Tom Meiners, Chief Meteorologist for WBBJ was introduced and thanked Gary for the fine program and the audience for their interest and active support of weather spotting in the Jackson area.

There were 22 members and 21 visitors present.

West Tennessee Amateur Radio Society Regular Meeting November 2, 2017

President Tim Belton KK4DTT called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM.

There were 19 members and one visitor present.

The minutes from the October 5, 2017 meeting were approved as read.

The treasury report was given by the treasurer Philip Julian KG4NVN. The checking account balance is $505.40 and the savings account $4883.42. No additional bills are expected before the end of the year.

Philip also reported that our club radio license has been renewed.

Greg Flanagan N4GMF reported that the Bagels and Bluegrass Bike Ride was well supported with a record number of participants. The event organizers sent their thanks.

Tim Belton remarked that the D-Star repeater is working but its full capability has not been established.

The program was presented by Eddie Holmes WE4WXO using slides from the Winter Weather Workshop conducted by the National Weather Service. They focused on the Hazard Simplification Project and snow fall projections for the upcoming winter season.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:00 PM.

President Tim Belton KK4DTT called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM.

There were 25 persons present. (No membership information was taken.)

The minutes from the August 3, 2017 meeting were approved as read.

Philip Julian KG4NVN reported all finances are in order with a checking account balance of

$606.38 and savings account $4856.99. Copies of the club tax exempt filing papers for 2017

were submitted to the secretary for filing with the minutes.

The program was presented by Alan McClain KA4BNI. He explained and demonstrated features

of the state wide digital radio system that is now used by the Tennessee Highway Patrol and other

public service agencies.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 PM.

President Tim Belton KK4DTT called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM. There were 21 members present and 1 visitor.

The minutes from the June 1, 2017 meeting were approved as read.

Philip Julian KG4NVN reported all finances are in order with a checking account balance of $732.91 and savings account $4856.99.

Jimmy Floyd NQ4U announced that the computer supporting the D-Star repeater is almost ready and the system should be on the air soon.

A very interesting program was presented by Dennis Murphy KJ6UF that outlined his very extensive solar panel installation at his home in Toone, TN.

June 5, 2014

Meeting called to order by President Tom Goodman, AI4DB, at 7:00 PM.

No Treasurer's nor Secretary's report since both were absent from the meeting. May minutes from Tim Belton, KK4DTT are included at the end.

Discussed the 147.210 repeater antenna situation. Jimmy Floyd, NQ4U, said he would make arrangements for another tower crew to put up the new antenna.

Discussed Field Day:

Greg N4GMF, made motion. Seconded by Jimmy, W4JHO to buy two Baofeng 2M/440 radios. One will be given away to the 9 people who either obtained their first license or upgraded at the May 31st Test Session. One will be given away to those attending Field Day. Motion carried.

Motion by Greg, N4GMF, Seconded by Lee, KF4NZV, to buy enough Bar-be-que from Latham's Bar-be-que to feed 60 people for a quoted price of $210. Motion carried.

Amateur Radio Day Declaration:

Jimmy, NQ4U, informed the club that the Madison County Mayor will make the declaration at the University of Tennessee Agricultural Center Monday, June 16th, around 8:30 A.M. It is requested that all who can attend, please do so.

Project : jimmy Floyd needs a terminated folded dipole built. We will schedule a time

to build this antenna.

The Meeting was call to order by Tom Goodman (AI4DB).

The Bagels and Bluegrass bike ride went well.

There were no injuries and the ride completed at 4pm.

The Jackson Christmas Parade will be December 2. The parade will have the same layout as last year. Volunteer are to meet at 5pm in the Civic center paring lot.

There are no new nominations for officers from the nominating committee.

Bagels and Blue Grass bike Ride communication volunteers will meet at the JSCC gym at 6:30am on Saturday.

Update on the 146.210 repeater antenna. A commercial mono band antenna has been purchased for 849.00. A tower climber will be scheduled soon.

Tom Goodman presented a program on Radio Astronomy.

Trustee Report

Allen McClain reported that the power amp was repaired but the antenna on the 147.210 was bad and needed to be replaced.. The coax was ok. Allen suggested that we go back with a mono band commercial grade antenna and move the 442.900 to the EMA tower.

A motion was made by Stan Kozlowitz and seconded by James Garner to give Allen McClain approval to replace the 147.210 antenna up to $2,500. motion passed. A committee was appointed to assist Allen with this project.

Committee members are Tom Goodman, Greg Flannigan, Philip Julian, and Jimmy Floyd.

March 22 2014 is the date for the Andrew Jackson Marathon. The club provides communication for this event.

There will be a Cubaree demo link system on September 7 at the fairgrounds.

On Saturday September 14 at Montgomery Bell State park there will be digital communication training Jimmy will do training at the EOC from 8:30 to 5:00 with winlink and winmore.

Tom Goodman appointed an election committee of David Nailing and Philip Julian.

Tim Belton made a motion to form a committee of Jimmy Floyd and Mike Winslow To put together an proposal for club insurance with ARRL. Seconded by Greg Flannigan Motion approved.

Allen McClain did an excellent program on repeater operation and tuning along with the future of the westlink repeater network.

The club wants to thank Jimmy Floyd (NQ4U) for teaching the ICS 300 course.

On The revived WTARS information and swap meet net on 147.210 repeater there were 17 check ins.

Alan McClain (KA4BNI) reported that the 145.170 repeater on the hospital was down. All other repeater are up and running.

A new repeater is now on in Savannah Tn on frequency 146.700 pl 123.0. He also reported that a new 440 repeater in Savannah Tn will be coming soon.

New Business

The club voted to sanction and support the following events.

March 16, 2013 The Andrew Jackson marathon.

The Casey Jones Special event station. The date is yet to be determined.

The Bagels and Blue Grass Bike ride in October.

Field Day June 22 and 23.

The club discussed that we support and assist the Chester County Club when possible.

The club voted to recommend and support a new call sign for the Ares/Races repeater.

February 21 is National Severe Weather Awareness Day

Our April Meeting will be at Barnhills.
