Call for Expression of Firm Interest & Project Identification/deadline June 3, 2011

Seeking proposals to prepare boards representing recently-completed public/civic/institutional buildings designed by Seattle-area architecture firms, highlighting tectonics and materials, for Autumn 2011 exhibit and ongoing instructional use

Proposals due 6/3, boards due 9/30, exhibit opens 10/3, reception 11/2011

The Material Evidence 2011 exhibit opens October 3rd in the UW Department of Architecture office (Gould 208), with a reception in November, and will remain on display throughout Autumn Quarter. After the exhibit, the project boards will become part of the permanent exhibit and archive in the College Material Library.

The exhibit intends to offer an in-depth examination and representation of the architectural tectonics of each project, with particular focus on the exterior wall and roof envelope, and the architectural responses to energy and environmental opportunities and constraints.

From the proposals received, faculty member Jim Nicholls will select six projects and contact the firms regarding submittals in the format of a single 3’x5’ panel for delivery to Gould Hall September 30, 2011, to include:

* finished project photographs,

* construction document plans, sections and details

* construction site photographs, and

* actual material samples.

Together these will illustrate and explain a portion of the building’s pragmatic and expressive constructed architectural language.

Please send in your firm name, contact information, and the building proposed for presentation to Jim Nicholls, jnicholl@uw.edu, 206.616-4366.

Questions welcome, example boards available
