Support Group Meetings
Our monthly meetings will be at Kiwanis Recreation Center, 352 Devers Street, Fayetteville, NC on the second Saturday of each month. Time is 10:00 AM through completion by 12:00 PM . Every meeting coffee, drinks, ice, cups, plates and utensils will be provided. We ask your support for snacks. Bring what you want, all normally works out. We may have guest speakers, however we will make sure a sound portion of each meeting is dedicated for us just to talk, share, and educate.

Do security scanners impacting the DBS stimulator, if the device has been replaced since 2011, it does not have a magnetic switch in it to turn it on and off. The Activa stimulators (that have been in use for 5 years) are fully shielded and would not be impacted by electromagnetic fields that would be encountered in everyday activities.

10 Dec Caroline Ha a junior in high school arraigned with Allison G. Hingley, MT-BC Owner, Neurologic Music Therapist, Atlantic Music Therapy an exception presentation about music therapy. This was Caroline’s first presentation. A job well done.
The second hour, and with a new title of Doctor of Physical Therapy, Dr. Deborah Constantine, from Campbell University spoke about falling and getting up, C.L.I.M.B. She has a background as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Health Professional Studies, DPT , University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, MHS, Physical Therapy, University of Indianapolis,BS, Physical Therapy, University of Maryland at Baltimore.

Aug 08 - 1000 Guest Speaker:: Chris Sparks, Medtronic's “Advanced Therapies for PD Motor Symptom Management”. The presentation provides an explanation of the 6 classes of medications that are currently used to treat PD motor symptoms (tremor, rigidity, bradykinesia, dyskinesia) as well as a discussion of the strategies that determine when each type of medication may be suggested. It also provides an overview of surgical options (Levadopa pump, Deep Brain Stimulation, Focused Ultrasound) and a discussion of when a surgical option is warranted. A unique presentation that simplified the affects on medications and other treatments for Parkinson's Disease. Some members said they had heard these topics many times but never came away with an understanding that Chris Sparks provided.
September 12th Meagan E. Honaker Marketing Coordinator, , St. Joseph of the Pines talking about PACE- the government Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly . A very good presentation on a program to assist those needing medical or caregiver support during day 8-5, one or more times a week.
