NATIONAL CADET CORPS

National Cadet Corps is the world’s largest voluntary uniformed youth organization which was raised by Parliamentary Act No XXXI of India in 1948 with 20,000 cadets. It has grown in stature and size over the years and currently has a sanctioned strength of about 15 lakh cadets who undergo basic military like training for two years in the junior wing and junior division and three years in the senior wing senior division.

INTRODUCTION OF NCC UNITS Of THE VISHWAVIDYALAYA

The Vishwavidyalaya has presently two functional NCC units namely 3 M P Signal Company NCC and 7 M P Girls Battalion NCC for senior division (SD) and senior wing (SW) cadets of the Vishwavidyalaya respectively. Initially The Vishwavidyalaya also has senior division unit of 11 M P Battalion NCC, Saugor (now not existing in the Vishwavidyalaya) including senior division unit of 3 M P Signal Company NCC and senior wing unit of 7 M P Girls Battalion NCC, Saugor. The present senior division unit of the Vishwavidyalaya is functioning with strength of 02 ANO and 200 cadets under 3 M P Signal Company NCC whereas the senior wing unit is working with strength of 01 ANO and 53 cadets under 7 M P Girls Battalion NCC, Saugor (M.P.). The NCC units of the Vishwavidyalaya provide ample opportunities to develop one’s physical and intellectual potential through different training camps and activities like Republic Day Camp (RDC), Thal Sainik Camp (TSC), Basic Leadership Camp (BLC), Advanced Leadership Camp (ALC), Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC), Army Attachment Training Army (AATC), Wing Activities, Youth Exchange Programme (YEP), community development programme cum social service activities like sapling plantations, blood donation camps, social awareness rallies, cleanliness drives of statues, COVID-19 related camps, adventure training like Cycle Expedition, Trekking & Sports etc. along with institutional trainings including Foot Drill, Arms Drill, Weapons Training, Self Defence, Map Reading etc. Every year cadets of the Vishwavidyalaya attend above different training camps as per the schedule provided by the directorate, group and unit time to time. From the raising of the NCC units in the Vishwavidyalaya, many cadets of units got appointed as army officers and in general duty of the Indian Army from time to time.

The NCC units of the Vishwavidyalaya provide ample opportunities to develop one’s physical and intellectual potentials through training camps. Qualifications in N.C.C. prove advantageous to the students in their future career. 32 seats are reserved for ‘C’ certificate holders in Indian Military Academy per course on the basis of merit. Various courses like para training, Mountaineering with Rock Climbing, Basic Leadership and Advanced Leadership courses are open to N.C.C. Cadets, N.C.C. Cadets with 50% marks in graduation, below 25 years and ‘B’ Grade in ‘C’ Certificate are eligible for direct SSB interview for Officer Training Academy, Chennai. Membership in the NCC entitles one to gain Weightage in admission. The National Cadet Corps (NCC) units of Vishwavidyalaya had conducted various training activities like Camp Training, Attachment Training Army Wing Activities, Youth Exchange Programme, Community Development Programme cum Social Service Activities Adventure Training, Cycle Expedition, Trekking & Sports etc. Foot Drill, Arms Drill, Weapons Training, Self Defense, Map Reading, Every Year Cadets of the University attend Training camp, Army Attachment camp, get selected For RDC camp. NCC unit’s organised various activities like many blood donation camps, social services, social awareness rallies, cleanliness of statues, Plantation, Covid-19 Camps etc. were conducted.

  • To develop character, courage, comradeship, discipline, leadership, secular outlook, spirit of adventure and sportsmanship and the ideals of selfless service among the youth of the country.

  • To create human resources of organized, trained and motivated youth, to provide leadership in all walks of life and always available for the service of the nation.

  • To provide a suitable environment to motivate the youth to take up a career in the armed forces.

NCC AS AN OPEN GENERAL ELECTIVE SUBJECT

In the Vishwavidyalaya now National Cadet Corps (NCC) would not remain an extra-curricular activity and recently at least 91 universities across the country including Doctor Harisingh Gour Vishwavidyalaya [Point APC:M28:(17) of 28th APC minutes, dated August 02, 2021] have adopted it as General Elective Credit Course (GECC) under the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) by the letter received from the University Grants Commission vide D.O.No.1-18/2019 (CPP-II) dated April 15 2021 to implement NEP-2020. Professor Ambika Datta Sharma, Dean of Student's Affairs (Head, Department of Philosophy) of the Vishwavidyalaya has appointed as Nodal Officer for the adopted Open General Elective Subject in the Vishwavidyalaya.
