Aloha kākou! (Hello everyone!) I am a graduate student of Music at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa in beautiful Honolulu on the island of Oʻahu. I recently finished my master’s degree in Ethnomusicology and will be starting my PhD in the same field in Fall 2021. My area of research is focused on protest music in Hawaiʻi and Hawaiʻi Hip Hop, in particular the music coming out the Anti-TMT movement to protect Mauna Kea, a sacred mountain on the island of Hawaiʻi. This past academic year I presented papers on these topics at the Society for Ethnomusicology and International Association for the Study of Popular Music – US Chapter annual meetings. Before graduate school I had a career as a General Music and Strings teacher at schools in Arizona, Tanzania, and Malaysia. In my spare time I enjoy dancing hula, writing non-linear music for video games, and attending live shows.
