Join the Editorial Board and Team

Being part of the JURM Editorial Board or Team is a great opportunity to participate in the only music journal comprised entirely of undergraduate research. Board and Team members will have the opportunity to build experience in music academia. Being part of the JURM Editorial Board or Team is a great way to make connections with music students all over the United States while promoting research on important topics in music.

Eligibility

Any student (undergraduate or graduate) in a post-secondary institution (including those in their last year of study) is eligible to apply to be on the Editorial Board and/or Editorial Team. Students are not required to be majoring in music (theory, composition, education, performance, industry, etc.) but are required to have some understanding of standard music terminology. JURM accepts submissions on a rolling basis and will require the work of reviewers and editors at varying points throughout the year.

The Editorial Board

The Editorial Board is responsible for deciding whether a work is accepted or rejected, with or without revisions. Board members are expected to give general guidance, but not to give specific pointers. Each person on the Editorial Board will be responsible for reading one (in some cases, two) paper(s) each year.

The Editorial Team (Associate Editors)

The responsibilities of the Editorial Team are much more time consuming than those of the Editorial Board. Team members are expected to give in-depth, specific feedback on grammar, syntax, citations, and beyond. Associate Editors will collaborate and communicate with their assigned author one-on-one, and they can expect to work on one paper (possibly two) per publication year. An interview is required as part of the selection process.
