Casey Oberdick

I'm a senior at Florida State University and will be graduating in Spring of 2022 with a dual degree BA in Music and BS in Psychology. My research interests center around ethnomusicology with a specific interest in Hindustani raga centered on the influence of Ravi Shankar on Western music styles. I presented a paper in Spring of 2021 at Florida State University's Undergraduate Music Research Symposium on the impact of Ravi Shankar in the development of Philip Glass's unique minimalist style and how this shaped their collaborative album entitled Passages. In Fall of 2019 I became a member of the Beta Alpha chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota and have been lucky enough to serve as both a social committee co-chair and formal committee co-chair for the chapter. As of Spring 2021, I've become a member of Florida State University's steel pan ensemble, Mas 'n Steel, in which I've played the bass and lead pan. I'm also interested in psychology research and work in the evolutionary and social psychology research lab at Florida State University under Dr. Jon Maner.
