Tips for Parents
Parents and guardians have a role in supporting learning when it occurs in the classroom as well as when it occurs virtually.
Assist your student with creating a comfortable learning environment and the establishment of a regular academic routine
Provide materials and tools necessary for learning to occur (paper, pencils, calculator, devices, etc.)
Establish regular communication with the classroom teacher to check in with your student’s progress.

Tip: Don't forget to monitor online learning for students at all grade levels.
How to Create a Learning Space
To be successful your child needs a space to work and learn. A dedicated learning space should be in an shared, well lit area of your home. It should be separated from a bedroom and away from a TV to set an expectation that it is time to work.
A Sample Daily Schedule
Once you have an idea about assignments and time commitments set a daily schedule. Just like in the school building, students at home will be more successful if a schedule is in place.
A message from the New York State Technical and Education Assistance Center for Homeless Students
To ensure that some of the most vulnerable New York families who rely on Supplemental Security Income (SSI) do not miss out on financial support they are eligible for, please share the following information:
If you are a recipient of Supplemental Security Income (SSI), you will receive your $1,200 economic impact payment from the IRS automatically--you do not have to do anything.
But, if you receive SSI, have not filed a tax return, and you have an eligible child, you must act now to get $500 per child in addition to your $1200 payment.
BY MAY 5th, go to the IRS' Non-Filer web form available here to give information about your children.
If you miss the May 5th deadline, please go to IRS.gov for further information.
Thank you for your continued work in support of students and families experiencing homelessness.
