Juniors: Prep for the NJGPA

The NJGPA is the state mandated test all Juniors must pass to be eligible for graduation. We are offering free prep during Period 4 lunch. See the flyer to the left for more details.

What’s on the ELA tests?

The ELA test consists of two 90 minute units. The skills addressed include: Reading Comprehension, Literary Analysis, Vocabulary, Written Expression and Knowledge of Language and Conventions.

In simpler language, the test asks students to demonstrate their ability to read narrative text (a story) and respond to questions that show comprehension of the story itself and its component parts (characters, setting, plot, theme, conflict, and use of literary elements/figurative language). Then they must demonstrate understanding of style and structure by creating a prose constructed response. Students will also read various types of text and will need to comprehend and then synthesize the information to create a written response that requires them to analyze the pieces of writing in some way (such as: compare/contrast, thematically, characterization, argumentative or some other focus) Each section includes multiple choice question and a written response.
