About us

Who we are, where we meet and a brief history about the club

We are a small and friendly model railway club for modelling enthusiasts in any gauge or scale.  We are currently working on four different layouts in various scales/gauges.  We have members who model in Gauge 1, O, OO, HO, N and OO9.

Railway interests varies between modern, steam and American outlines and experience levels are also varied.  All of which makes for interesting conversations. Tea, coffee and biscuits are always available on meet nights.  New members are made very welcome.

Feel free to drop in any club night to find out more about us, so come and join us.

Sleaford and District Model Railway Club - A brief History

In September 2013, Norman Phillips (now the clubs President), was the driving force behind the foundation of the club.  We started off as a small group of like-minded individuals who wanted a club which whilst being a model railway club was also a sociable and entertaining group.  We used to meet at his house in Ruskington and the first layout was started in his back garden and garage.  A few weeks later he moved to Sleaford and we carried on meeting on a Thursday night building the layout.

This was loosely built in the Southern Region called ‘Compton’.  As the layout progressed, we had to find more space.  As I was the caretaker of the Village Hall and a member of the Committee in Osbournby, I approached them for one of the free nights to hold meetings and to carry on building our layout.  So we moved on the 1st January 2014.

The club has built up slowly but surely since then with some people joining but not staying and others joining and staying.  Soon it became obvious that Osbournby was not going to have the amount of storage space that we required, so the hunt was on for alternative premises and so we arrived back in Ruskington and the Village Hall!  However, the hunt still goes on for more storage and work space facilities.
