Samuel Doak Chapter honors Janet McLane with Community Service Award
Pictured left to Right: Samuel Doak Chapter Regent Ellen Betts awarding Janet McLane
Samuel Doak Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution Regent Ellen Betts and Samuel Doak Chapter Community Service Chairman Gloria Beauchamp awarded the Community Service Award at the Dandridge First United Methodist Church on April 9, 2016, to Janet McLane.
Although Janet McLane volunteers in Jefferson County at the Glenmore’s Garden Market and in Hamblen County at Rose Center for the Spring Time in the Garden as a Master Gardner, she has been working for the past ten years volunteering as a fundraiser for The House of Prayer’s Soap Ministry. Janet has been weaving silk tie chair seats from the donated silk ties and wooden chairs that lacked seats to generate money to support Frances Branner’s Soap Ministry in Dandridge, Tennessee. These beautiful chairs she sales and donates the money to the Soap Ministry which helps to provide laundry soap, dish soap, bar soap, shampoo and toilet tissue for folks in need of these items which cannot be purchased with food stamps.

Samuel Doak Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution Regent Ellen Betts (L) and Samuel Doak Chapter Community Service Chairman Gloria Beauchamp awarded the Community Service Award at the Dandridge First United Methodist Church on April 9, 2016, to Frances Branner (R) .
Frances Branner began devoting her time and her money towards Jefferson County Community Residents in 1974 when she was given permission to use an empty house in Danridge, Tennessee, to establish the House of Prayer. Her church reached out to the underprivileged, who managed to subsist below poverty level, by providing food, clothing, and home items. She became known as Pastor Frances throughout the Jefferson County area for her generosity towards helping the less fortunate. Food donations helped her open her doors for Thanksgiving and Christmas Dinners for these people in need. She delivered her food to the homebound if they were unable to attend. She also added a new toy as an additional gift. In 2006, she began the Soap Ministry. She purchases or collects toiletry and hygiene products, such as bath soap, liquid dish and laundry detergents, as well as toilet paper, to dispense to people who can’t afford to buy these articles. Food stamps or EBT cards are only good for the purchase of foodstuff, not household cleaners or personal toiletries. She simply took care of others before herself. She clearly “judged not”, simply gave expecting joy in the heart of the recipient only.
