Welcome to Greg Hurst's lab page!

We work on the ecological and evolutionary significance of symbionts to their insect hosts.

Our hypothesis is simple: many aspects of insect biology, ecology and evolution cannot be understood without understanding the microbes associated with the insect.

Our goal is to determine these impacts, through laboratory work, through analysis in natural populations, and through mathematical modelling. We also make extensive use of secondary data

We are based at the Institute of Infection, Veterinary and Ecological Sciences, University of Liverpool - where we work in the Department of Evolution, Ecology and Behaviour - but our work takes us to many countries across the world.
