Low Literacy

Once in a while I rename concepts if the name no longer includes the target group. First there was illiteracy, when a large part of the population did not go to school and could not read and write. Today a large part of the population has access to education and illiteracy is declining and I speak of low literacy.

Use Of Reading And Writing In Everyday Life

Low literacy means that people can read and write but have difficulty with the use of reading and writing in everyday life, which are considered ordinary or insignificant for others. Think of reading a road sign, instructions to assemble a table, the back of a milk carton, etc. This can have major consequences if I were allergic to milk, for example.

Digibeten

Digibeten are the new form of Illiteracy. When the computer became a laptop and became established, I started talking about 'Digibeten', because the laptop or tablet became a necessity to function in daily life. By Digibeten I mean those who cannot handle a laptop, tablet or mobile. This group is also declining because the tablet and smartphone is common now. This is thanks to the itc'ers who are interested enough in their profession to make it easier for others to use these appliances.

Refugees And Nomads Can Also Be Illiterate

What now remains are the refugees and nomads who move to another country and are educated, but in a different language and culture. This group has difficulty finding a connection, because they learn the new language, but do not penetrate to the 'new' country due to lack of understanding the meaning of the language (culture), but also keep to much to the standards and values of their country of origine.  One thing they also lack is what is called in Dutch a 'Kruiwagen' to know uitzendbureaus, uwv, networks in their professional field, etc. Why find a new term and not a new approach? Where are the lifehackers who will help this group achieve something on their educated level in the new country?
