How I Was Challenged Out Of My Comfort Zone Into Skydiving

Waiting for a tennis match with my doubles partner I ended up talking about challenges. I thought about some options and decided to go skydiving. I was scared of the idea, but said it would be great.

Tandem Skydiving

I went to Zeeland in The Netherland to skydive. I opted for a tandem skydive. This ment I got instructions and would jump a tandem jump with an instructor. After the instructions and walking around on the grounds of the airfield I boarded a very small plane. I was geared up in real parachute jumping clothes.

The Jump

I sat in the very small plane and had a very nice view over Zeeland and the Deltawerken. After a while the door of the plane opened, and nerves were going through my body. I saw my tennis doubles partner and her instructor fall out of the plane and the only thing I could think of was NO, NO, I don’t want to jump anymore…

The Energy Of The Jump

I was insured to my instructor and I slowly went for the door. The wind blew us out of the plane. I made a head roll and then the instructor noticed that the lines were turned a bit, so I did a half pirouette. And then it was quiet, and I was hanging to the instructor and seeing the Delatawerken. In less then a few minutes I touched the ground, and I was still high on the jump energy. I saw that my doubles partner also landed, and the instructor asked if I wanted to jump again, I said in the high of the moment: Yes, but immediately thought never again! And never jumped again!

The Next Challenge After Parachute Jumping

This was my only experience with parachute jumping and will always be! A few years later I went ballooning alone and that was a better match. With my doubles partner I did the next year (2019) another challenge our last challenge together hiking the 4 Daagse van Nijmegen for MYBODY a campaign of Rutgers Stichting.
