Together with Laudius and another teacher I made a Big Data eCourse in Dutch about what Big Data is, how to analyze Big Data and Privacy & Ethics in Big Data research (Affiliate).
Laudius
Laudius is an eCourse platform in The Netherlands with a diversity in eCourses. Most eCourses are Language courses. And some eCourses are with practice days. The Big Data eCourse made by me and a fellow teacher for them is an eCourse that can be followed in own pace online.
Big Data
There is always data and not all data is called Big Data. Data is called Big Data when there is no structure in the data. The data is collected and afterwards it is used for analyses to solve research questions and/or issues in society. This is Big Data, because the questions are asked later when the data is already collected and not before collection.
How The Big Data eCourse Was Made
After talking to Laudius and agreeing on what the main features of the content of the eCourse would be. I and the other teacher sat together and discussed who would made which content of the eCourse and which details would be in the eCourse. It took us half a year to make the Big Data eCourse. In the eCourse there are videos with instructions and explanations, pdfs, the book, homework (questions and cases), a forum and links to more materials about Big Data.
The Big Data eCourse
The Big Data eCourse is based on the Dutch book ‘Succes met Big Data’. In the eCourse the book is essential to learn about Big Data in theory and the theory is tested with questions. Also there are cases in which the Big Data analyses are practiced by the students. Each case is another analysis that can be used on Big Data. The homework can be corrected by a teacher if the variant homework correction is chosen. The Big Data analyses are done in Excel, but other analyses programs can also be used. The choice to use Excel is because most people have Excel and with a free Excel add-on the analyses can be done in Excel.
Certificate
The eCourse consists of 7 lessons in Dutch. After finishing the eCourse there are various options for a certificate. See the information on the Laudius platform for up-to-date information about the exam and certificate options.
