On the week ending 6th May 2023 we joined the Nation in celebrating the Coronation of Queen Camilla and King Charles III.

The events began earlier in the week with a trek up onto the moor to take part in the beacon lighting by Abercairney Estate, they welcomed us up the hill with pipers and refreshments.

Early on the Saturday morning hall Chairperson, Morag Lindsay, was interviewed on BBC Radio Scotland's Breakfast Program about the days upcoming events.

We started by live screening of the Coronation in the hall with teas, coffees and biscuits to keep all fed until time for lunch. This was a great combination of home made sandwiches, coronation chicken, coronation flans & salads along with additions from Gourlay's Catering which was provided by a National Lottery Grant. It created a great community feeling with everyone coming together.

The beautiful cake, made by June McGrath, was cut by the two village residents who lived in the village at the last Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. Bill Brown and Mary Turpie told us stories of this time including children's sports day.

Come evening time we were happy to continue the celebrations with a traditional Ceilidh and live music, kept fueled by stovies.
