Greetings to all Central Region members! Hope all is well with you and you’re enjoying summer!
Thanks very much to immediate past Central Region Director Jodi Meyer for her leadership during the recent unusual and difficult circumstances. I’m very appreciative for her help during the transition.
As I begin my term there’s anticipation that we’ll soon return to at least near normal in the next few months. So, I’d like to encourage you to spread the word and attend the 2021 Central Region Conference to be held November 1st and 2nd at the Essenhaus Inn and Conference Center in Middlebury, Indiana. Though it’s a little later than our usual October meeting, it will be close enough to the Christmas season that we’ll have great shopping opportunities! Plus, we hope (cross your fingers!) to be able to host a hybrid meeting for those who cannot attend in person but who would like to join us virtually.
Thanks very much to The Garden Club of Indiana, Inc. for volunteering to host the meeting this year. Indiana was scheduled to host last year but COVID-19 interfered. Very appreciative thanks to Joyce Bulington and her committee for working on what will be an event everyone can look forward to.
There have been some questions concerning Awards. It’s been decided that our time frame (June 1 new officers and committee chairmen begin their terms to September 1 when Awards are due) is too short to create new Awards for clubs to work on. Awards (as long as sponsors agree to continue sponsorship) and guidelines (Unified Project Award is the exception) will remain the same as last year’s (including YEARBOOK awards which NGC is not continuing).
New is the Central Region Unified Project: Planting America – Growing for Food Pantries. Laurel DeBoer, CR Alternate Director, is chairing this committee and all details will be on the Central Region website soon.
