If you develop high grade dysplasia, then your case will be discussed in a multi-disciplinary meeting consisting of physicians, surgeons, histopathologists (experts at looking at the cells under the microscope), and cancer specialists.

The options will then be discussed with you. These include endoscopic therapy or surgery.

Surgery used to be the treatment of choice but, although it can be a life saver in some, surgery can be associated with a number of problems, with a risk of death from the operation in up to 5% of cases, and risk of complications in up to 40%.

New endoscopic therapies are available which can treat high grade dysplasia or very early cancer.
