I will emphasise that if you have Barrett’s oesophagus the chances are you will never develop problems. In fact studies have shown that most patients with Barrett’s will eventually die from completely unrelated causes, such as heart disease or stroke.

Although the risk varies in the studies done, currently we can estimate a chance of getting cancer of about 1-2 in 200 per year.
