About Us

The North Gaston High School Band is under the direction of Tim Reed. Members of the Wildcat Band continually strive for excellence on the field and in the classroom. The NGHS Band has received 75 Superior and Excellent ratings and over 275 awards over the last eighteen years in both marching and concert competitions.  In the classroom, the Wildcat Band also achieves excellence with an average GPA of 3.6. 

Tim Reed, Director of Bands

Tim Reed is a native of Weaverville, NC.  He earned his Bachelor of Music Degree in Education from Mars Hill University in Mars Hill, NC.  He is currently the Director of Bands at North Gaston High School in Dallas, NC where he has served since 2006.  Both the marching and concert bands have received Superior and Excellent ratings, and the marching band was named Grand Champion of the North Forsyth Viking Invitational in 2008.  Prior to joining the staff at North Gaston, he served as Director of Bands at Cherryville High School from 2002-2005 where he guided the Symphonic Band to a Superior rating at the District Concert Band Festival in his first semester.  While at Cherryville, his bands received Superior and Excellent ratings at both marching and concert band festivals.  In 2011, Mr. Reed was selected as the Gaston County Schools Band Director of the Year and has been selected for Who's Who Among America's Teachers. He currently holds memberships in the Music Educators National Conference, North Carolina Music Educators Association, North Carolina Bandmasters Association, South Central District Band Directors Association (technology chair for the All-District Band Auditions), Gaston County Band Directors Association and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America.  Mr. Reed resides in Gastonia with his wife, Jennifer, who teaches math at North Gaston and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte; son, Jacob; and daughter, Madison.
