The Practitioners 2023

BA(Hons) Drama and Production class of 2023

Megan Thomson

Megan is a theatre practitioner from Perth. This journey for Megan has been a long and winding path. From being a youth and performing in the SCDA One Act play festival to where she is now. She started her studies at Perth College UHI completing both HNC and HND in Technical Theatre. This was not enough for her as she craved more knowledge about theatre. This lead her to staying at Perth UHI for a further two years to complete HNC and HND Musical Theatre. After a two year break from her studies she is back to studying but now at UHI Inverness and is now in her 4th year of BA (Hons) Drama and Production. Alongside her studies she works with a local theatre group Ad-Lib Arts assisting with tech for performances and teaching weekly drama classes to juniors and youths.

Being versatile in the theatre industry she hopes to showcase her skills with her play. The main focus for her has been the script writing, technical, directing, and stage management of her piece. This final piece of theatre brings together all the skills and knowledge that Megan has studied for over the years and showing her strengths in other areas.

Her interests lie in in the concept of making theatre therapeutic for it's audiences as well as it's actors. The process for creating her piece was found to be therapeutic when considering the content of the story enabling her to make peace with problems faced in childhood.

Who knew that what can be an uncomfortable conversation with parents that you avoid like the plague, could be turned into a  piece of art.

Kirsty Walton

Kirsty is a 26 year old performing arts student based in Edinburgh. She has always had a strong passion for the performing arts and upon leaving school, was awarded a scholarship into Perth Amateur Operatic Society (PAOS) via audition. During her time at PAOS she improved her performing skills and took on numerous roles, making a strong name for herself.

While performing was a great passion however, Kirsty was not sure it was the career path she wanted to follow and instead took the pathway of Primary Teaching at the University of Dundee. After three years teaching, she realised that even though she had a love for teaching, her true passion lay within the Performing Arts. She went on to study a HND in Musical Theatre at Perth College UHI which lead her to consider a career in combining her two loves, teaching and performing; the next adventure.

While Kirsty would consider performing again, she is very excited to take on more responsibility in the future through directing and creating shows, and cannot wait to see what the future may bring for her career in the industry.

Fraser Bishop

After spending four years on the Drama & Production degree at UHI Inverness, Fraser cites the final weeks of his fourth year as being surreal. Having always had a passion for acting, but since starting at UHI in 2019 his career goals have slightly changed. With a focus on writing and directing he has really been able to develop over the last four years here, and is excited to see where it can take him in the future. After he graduates, he will still be working on Carsaig Films with Joe Osborn, and they hope that one day they can make that their full-time careers.
