The catalina cherry is an evergreen small tree native to southern California chaparral areas, Baja, and the Channel Islands.

Sun requirements: full sun, but can handle part shade

Water: drought tolerant, needs little summer water

  • Growth habit: grows upright to 30-40 feet.
  • Bloom: in late spring, white blossoms form in spikes and red edible fruits form in the fall ( these can stain concrete so do not plant near a sidewalk)
  • that turn dark. Slight fragrance.
  • Description: apple green glossy green leaves about 2-5" long, on tightly branched upright tree. Grows slowly at first, then once established more quickly. Birds like the fruits. It can tolerate many soil types. It may also hybridize with other subspecies like hollyleaf cherry.
