World Music & Drum Circles

World music (also called global music or international music) is a musical category encompassing many different styles of music from around the globe, which includes many genres including some forms of Western music represented by folk music, as well as selected forms of ethnic music, indigenous music, neotraditional music, and music where more than one cultural tradition, such as ethnic music and Western popular music, intermingle.

A drum circle is any group of people playing (usually) hand-drums and percussion in a circle. They are distinct from a drumming group or troupe in that the drum circle is an end in itself rather than preparation for a performance. Typically, people gather to drum in drum "circles" with others from the surrounding community. The drum circle offers equality because there is no head or tail. It includes people of all ages. The main objective is to share rhythm and get in tune with each other and themselves. To form a group consciousness. To entrain and resonate. By entrainment, I mean that a new voice, a collective voice, emerges from the group as they drum together.

I have facilitated drum circles all over the Intermountain West. These have included Family reunions,

Boy Scout camps, girl's camps, Old Folk's Homes, Rehab Centers, City Festivals, and Art Museums.

These activities usually last between one and two hours.

*My rate for a Drum Circle Activity is $40 plus travel ($1 per five miles-one way) and housing expenses (if needed). Email me to schedule an event.
