From this data, Alexandra Wingate has written an undergraduate honors thesis (defended May 2018) about the connection between private libraries and identity in early modern Navarre called "'A qué manera de libros y letras es inclinado': las bibliotecas privadas de Navarra en los siglos XVI y XVII." This thesis uses the methods of book history to create a substrate upon which a cultural studies analysis can be exercised, utilizing the concepts of canon, self-fashioning, and identity. This thesis argues that individuals could use personal libraries to express social identity in early modern Navarre by their adherence or resistance towards social, religious, and political norms in regards to reading and books according to their social status (gender, class, profession, etc.).
