THE BROADWAY ATELIER DIPLOMA IN OIL PAINTING

BROADWAY ATELIER DIPLOMA IN OIL PAINTING

This intensive two year-long, studio based course is unique in Wales and offers a thorough grounding in figurative oil painting. The course is designed to fit around students work/family commitments and is run over six semesters with one weekend of full time instruction per month.

Instruction on this Diploma course focuses on the 'craft' of painting and students will build their skills in paint handling, colour theory, composition and painting techniques from a basic to an advanced level throughout the course. No previous experience in oil painting is necessary however a competent skill base in drawing is preferable.

(Our Fundamentals of Drawing course is an ideal precursor to this course.)

With professional and intensive instruction is scheduled primarily at weekends (although weekday instruction is also an option) there are three weekends of instruction per semester and the course has been designed specifically to accommodate those who may have work/family commitments.  Students who successfully complete all the requirements of the course will receive the Broadway Atelier Diploma.

The BROADWAY ATELIER DIPLOMA IN OIL PAINTING is a unique opportunity to enhance your professional development as an artist. Through working alongside a professional artist this  'apprenticeship' in the skills and techniques of both direct and indirect painting  is designed to deepen your awareness, appreciation, and ability to use oil paint to render figurative subject matter - both still life and the figure - and is an intensive and immersive learning experience.  We believe that this form of intensive course  is unique in Wales, and possibly in the UK, and it maximises your learning through a contemporary approach to a traditional ‘atelier’ education wherein theoretical knowledge and practical skills are taught through a variety of methods in order to enhance and extend your individual creativity.

With  a one-on- one format and an emphasis on studio practice, students receive an in-depth education where practical tuition and self-directed study are supported by regular individual tutorials, formal and informal lectures and critical debate. All teaching is carried out within the environment of a professional artists studio located in the centre of Cardiff.

Admission to the Diploma in Oil Painting course is  through portfolio and discussion of student needs and requirements. Interviews are ongoing until course is filled.

Total cost of course: £14,000: (£7,000 per year) to be paid in full in advance or by deposit and installments. Fee includes:
