Fundraising and Volunteering

Bloomington Figure Skating Club

Why volunteer and fundraise?

It’s all about the ICE TIME!!

BFSC is a Not for-Profit 501(c)(3) organization whose goal is to promote the sport of figure skating. At the Frank Southern Ice Arena, there is no freestyle skating allowed on public ice, and there are no rink-sponsored figure skating sessions for practice. Therefore all freestyle skating in Bloomington occurs through BFSC.

The BFSC purchases ice time for our members to practice ($240/hr) through Parks and Recreation.  In a typical year the money collected from our membership fees and ice passes covers only about two thirds of the season's ice rental.  Fundraising helps keep membership fees from increasing and helps cover our costs.  About $6000/year in fundraising is necessary to keep the club in full operation.

All skating club families have a monetary obligation for fundraising, as well as required volunteer time.

The more help we have, the more smoothly our club can function!

Volunteer Hours/Fundraising Commitment by club membership level:

Full and Youth Members:  4 hours volunteer time and $200 fundraising commitment per family ($175 for Youth Option 2)

Adult and Collegiate membership:  2 hours volunteer time and $100 fundraising commitment

*All volunteer and fundraising commitments will be reduced for the first year of membership

*Fundraising can be done through a tax-deductible direct contribution to the club.
