The MATHCOUNTS Competition Program

MATHCOUNTS provides the extra incentive and perfect atmosphere for students to push themselves to achieve more in mathematics. Consisting of fun and creative problems that promote critical-thinking and problem-solving skills, the MATHCOUNTS competitions have written and oral rounds, as well as individual and team components. Though challenging and non-routine, the competition problems focus on the 6th through 8th grade standards of the National Council of Teachers in Mathematics. The MATHCOUNTS team is coached by Mrs. Christine Brinkman.

Staff also help in taking pictures of different school events to be included in the yearbook.  The yearbook staff advisor is Miss Jessica Wolles.

National Junior Honor Society

The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) celebrates a school’s commitment to the 5 pillars of the NJHS, which include: scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship.  The NJHS challenges middle-level students to become well-rounded student leaders in their school and community. NJHS, which is one of the oldest, largest, and most prestigious student recognition programs, operates throughout the US and around the world, engaging more than one million students.

For over 15 years, the Sacred Heart Middle School Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society has upheld these pillars, striving to represent excellence in our school and community.  Throughout the school year, members of the chapter serve as role models and leaders for other students, organize and hold a fundraiser, volunteer in the community, encourage kindness and character, and uphold and encourage academic excellence. The NJHS Advisor is Mrs. Kristi Ekroth.
