2024 Great Labrador Loppet

The 49th Great Labrador Loppet ran on Saturday March 30th,2024 with 71 skiers registered. This year the Loppet followed the National Masters and some people stayed on from Ottawa area.

The 2.5 , 5, & 20   Km events all started at White Wolf Club, the 10Km ski & snowshoe started at Duley Park, all events finished at White Wolf .The 30Km was dropped because of heavy snow conditions.

Going into the event, we had two days of rain and heavy snow on the night of March 29th and the heaviest snow between 9:30 and 10:00 am on Loppet day March 30th.

When the 10K started we had partial sunshine, a slight breeze and -5’C .

The Town of Wabush set up the big tent at the 10K start .

The Town of Labrador City did a great job with barricades on Circular Road and the road crossing for skiers lots of snow and double barricaded.

The trails were groomed by Alf Parsons of Menihek Nordic and Keith Oldford of Whitewolf and they did their best to make a good trail and most of it held up for a good ski despite the stormy conditions.

There was good food and hydration at the White Wolf Club for participants to re-energize. Along the trail at the 10K Pastor Shannon Meade and his crew did a wonderful job of hydration and food as did Tony Lawrence and his crew at the 5K mark.

The youth awards presentations at White Wolf were visited by CHILL the Carnival Mascot, the kids were surprised and really enjoyed the visited.

Beautiful medals for all provided by Ken Manstan of Leon’s.

In the evening, the adult banquet and award presentations were at the Wabush Hotel fancy dining room. The service and the food were excellent.

We must thank all the organizing Committee, Volunteers, Menihek Staff, White Wolf staff , Labrador West Search & Rescue, Hams of Western Radio Club, the RNC, Towns of Labrador City & Wabush , Pencal Bussing, & People from BBA.

Also, we thank our many sponsors who ensure we can sustain these events.

Thanks,
