Awards

Each year MAEA honors members who have shown that they are worthy assets to MSUE and their clientele. There are many different awards available. Members are nominated by themselves or their peers. There are several awards given by MAEA each year to recognize service to MSUE, MAEA and the people of Michigan


NACAA has annual awards for programming excellence. These awards begin at MAEA, we determine the 'Best' in Michigan and the winners then compete in categories for Regional and National Awards. MAEA Awards are determined by the Program Recognition Committee and its subcommittees. Members are encouraged to take advantage of these awards as a launchpad to compete for regional and national recognition.

State Awards

State Awards are presented at the MAEA annual meeting, usually held during MSU Fall Extension Conference.

MAEA Presidents Citation Award

The Presidents Citation is for young MAEA members who have demonstrated that they are worthy assets to MSUE and their clientele. Members are nominated by their peers. The deadline for nominations for these awards is before the August MAEA Board Meeting.

MAEA Outstanding Extension Specialist Award

Each year MAEA also recognizes two Outstanding Extension Specialists. One working in an across-the-state or major commodity area and the other assigned to an area or subject matter that does not result in statewide visibility. The recipient are nominated by MAEA members for their service to MSUE and their clientele. The deadline for these awards is in August.

Each year MAEA recognizes an Outstanding Academic Specialist for their service to Michigan Agriculture and the people of the state of Michigan. The deadline for these awards is in August.

MAEA Outstanding Support Staff Award

Each year MAEA recognizes 1-2 Outstanding Support Staff Members for their contributions to Extension Educators, service to Michigan Agriculture and the people of the state of Michigan. The deadline for these awards is in August.

Scholarships

MAEA Legacy Scholarship Fund

Application due dates: February 1, June 15, September 1 (by midnight)

Application Submission and Administrative Approval:

  • Individuals are to complete this application as described.

  • Groups are to submit one application which includes general information for each group member, as well as costs estimated for the group. The lead contact for the group should fill out the general information. The rest of the group should include the information in the narrative portion below.

  • Approval is needed from your immediate administrative supervisor via email to the Past President identifying the following: The supervisor understands that the applicant is a professional appointed staff member with at least a 50% appointment with MSU Extension, and has approval to submit this application.

MSUE Professional Development Endowed Fund

Application due dates: Application are February 1, June 15, September 1

To enhance professional development opportunities for Michigan State University Extension employees engaged in program implementation. This Fund is administered by a committee of the Michigan Council of Extension Associates (MCEA). This committee has representation from each of the five member associations of MCEA (includes ESP, CNRDA, MAEA, MAE4-HYS, MEAFCS) plus a Convener.

The Extension Professional Development Endowed Fund awards monetary support for continuous growth of Extension staff through meaningful professional improvement plans and activities. The Fund was established with gifts from individuals and organizations. The number and amount of annual awards varies and is determined by the committee based on available income and application eligibility and criteria.

K. J. Moilanen Memorial Scholarship Fund

To support employees who have demonstrated capacity to achieve educational and professional goals, have the motivation to achieve educational goals which support their careers with MSU Extension.

The K. J. Moilanen Memorial Scholarship Fund is administered by a committee of the Michigan Council of Extension Associates (MCEA). This committee has representation from each of the six member associations of MCEA (includes ESP, CNRDA, MAEA, MESSA, MAE4-HYS, MEAFCS) plus a Convener.
