Guttormsson Memorial Scholarship for the Snorri Program

The Guttormsson Memorial Scholarship – The Guttormsson Family Foundation was established in 2012 by Stefan and Rosemary Guttormsson of Minnesota to honor Stefan’s father, Bishop Stefan Thorsteinn Guttormsson, and grandfather, the Rev. Guttormur Guttormsson. After Stefan passed away in 2017, Rosemary decided to continue his legacy of preserving and promoting Icelandic heritage through the Guttormsson Memorial Scholarship. She offers up to $2000 USD in scholarships for American participants each year.

The Guttormsson Memorial Scholarship is available to young adults who have been accepted to participate in the Snorri Program. To honor her late husband, Dr. Stefan Guttormsson, and his father and grandfather, Rosemary Guttormsson offers up to $2000 USD in total scholarship funds each year (number of scholarships awarded and individual scholarship amounts may vary depending on need). Applicants must demonstrate an interest in community, education, and Icelandic culture and be citizens of the United States.

Requirements:

Upon completion of their Snorri trip, scholarship recipients are asked to write an article or blog post, edit a video, or create a similar project to detail their Snorri experience and how the scholarship has impacted their lives. Recipients are also asked to share their experience with others, including potential future Snorri applicants, through social media or in-person presentations at a local school, church, Icelandic club, or community organization.

Applications are due by April 1 each year. To apply, please send a letter or email including your name, age, and mailing address along with your answers to the following questions:

Who are your Icelandic ancestors and how are you related to them?

  • Why have you decided to study Icelandic language, culture, and history through the Snorri Program?
