REGISTRATION      Are you planning on walking the Camino?   Why not get in some practice and join Hillwalking  Radio Club  and Aherlow Failte on  a new and exciting Pilgrims Path Holistic Walk which will take place on Saturday 4th May @10am.

This scenic 12km walk which will begin at Christ  the King car park in the Glen of Aherlow  will take you along the path traipsed by the Franciscan monks on their journey from Tipperary to just outside Galbally where they built their abbey, namely Mooreabby,

Situated a mile outside Galbally in the Glen of Aherlow, Moore's Abbey was founded as a Franciscan house in the 13th Century. Its founder was Donough Cairbreach O'Brien, King of Thomond, and construction is believed to have begun on the Abbey in 1204. The building that remains today, however, dates from the 15th Century, and reference is made in the Annals of the Four Masters to the commencement of building of a monastery for Franciscans in 1471. It was destroyed by fire the following year.

Along the way we will visit the Mass Rock from Penial times and the pre-Christian Megalithic tomb of the Giants Grave.

A fantastic opportunity awaits you to join in this fantastic walk with panoramic views of the captivating Galtee mountain range overlooking this magnificent jewel in Irelands crown. You will be bused from Galbally to the starting point and walk along this magnificent trail afterwards you will be treated to tae and buns in the Community all Galbally as you recount your experience of walking along this magnificent pilgrim path . Aherlow Failte Society will publish details of registration and bus transfer from Galbally shortly.

This is not a loop walk so the plan  is to be bussed from the Church car park to Rock an Tarabh. This will be very much a laid back event giving people a chance to sing a song, meditate, recite a verse, hug a tree, link in with mother earth or whatever. There is no fee and it's not a fundraiser but registration will help with managing numbers for the bus which will incur a small fee. People can register through www.aherlow.com shortly. Walkers can do their own thing and car pool as well. The main thing is to get this up and running as a new event and separate activity to graded club walks. There is a second option for a 9klm walk also. You might pass on to someone that may be interested. Just be mindful to bring sturdy footwear, a walking stick and drinks. No dogs allowed.
