HILLWALKING COMMUNITY RADIO CLUB

Our Club was formed in 2010 when a group of volunteers came together to provide safety vhf communications for clubs and voluntary groups running events across the Galtee mountains and it's environs. Since then we have come along way. All our Team are trained up as Community First Responders. A big Go Raibh Maith Agat to our Local Authority, The Community Enhancement Scheme, all our friends and sponsors who give us donations. The money goes towards insurance, equipment and the purchase of waterproof clothing for winter duties and basic first aid supplies.  Please support us by clicking the DONATE button below, thank you.

 Wed 24th January.    Hillwalking Radio Club and our partners The Morning Ramblers presented a cheque for €918.33 to Kevin Clancy of Clares Wish Foundation in Doon. This was the proceeds of our Starlight and Lantern Walks on the 28th of December last.  Thank you all for thinking of those people who will never get the chance to enjoy the great outdoors.

Sat 27th January  We provided VHF radio support, first aid and recovery for The Glen of Aherlow Winter Walking Festival which took  place from Friday 26th of January to Sunday 28th of January. 

Sun 17th March.    We participated in both Tipperary town and Ballylanders St. Patrick's Day parades.

June 24th 2023.   We provided safety communications for the most difficult duty of the year, The Galtee Challenge.  We assisted a number of people who had to come off the Galtees including  three people from a charity event who had become disorientated in the fog near the Black road. 

April 15th 2023.  Casualty Care training course this afternoon. The focus was on how to stabilise an injured person on the hills until the rescue services arrived. Some of the techniques included stabilising arm and leg injuries, using a Sked Stretcher, survival blankets and basic first aid.  

February 26th 2023. Hillwalking Radio Club recently joined Blackwater Subaqua Search and Rescue at their Base in Fermoy. We had a full display on the underwater sonar unit used during search and recovery and a talk on general search and rescue. Thanks to Ken, Eugene and Olan for facilitating us and for the welcome cuppa and biscuits.  

January 28th/29th. We were on duty with our partners The Galtee Walking Club supporting the Glen of Aherlow Winter Walking Festival. Our First Responders put in a total of 17hrs over two days. Our Rescue Car brought a small number people off the mountain. Great to meet up with old friends again. 

December 28t 2022. What a brilliant night we had in Galbally, with sixty five people out for our Starlight Walks in what was described as a horrible night with constant rain and fog. It was a pleasure to meet Jenifer and Nioc from Circle of Friends in Tipperary. 

December 28th 2022. Thanks to our co-hosts the Morning Ramblers for organising the Starlight Walk through the village park and organising the catering.  We are so appreciative of everyone who donated, brought buns. Total raised for Circle of Friends €550.
