Wilshire Wildcats!

Music Students of Wilshire Elementary School

Wide-eyed and eager to learn, our students love to come together and play the various instruments in my classroom.

My students learn using the Orff Schulwerk process, meaning, when they come to music class, they transfer activities and words that are natural to their play into other, more musical activities. My students also learn from a Kodaly approach, wherein folk songs and the voice play prominent roles in connecting music theory with personal development.

Students could be moving creatively or in an organized dance, playing melodies that are improvised or read from a simple score using pitched (e.g., xylophones, glockenspiels) and non-pitched (e.g., claves, cabasa, guiro, triangle) percussion and singing songs and speaking rhythmically.

While all percussive instruments are played by everyone, the recorder is reserved for 4th and 5th graders wherein they can compile everything they've learned thus far in music and apply it to note-reading.

My students are the best! It's amazing the music they can make together.

About Me

YouTube Channel: Dayley Music

My name is Trina Dayley and I teach general music at Wilshire Elementary in San Antonio, Texas. I play trombone in the New Braunfels Village Brass Band (German polka) and the Cache County Community Band.  I love getting former instrumentalists "out of retirement" and into playing again.
