Breuer Window: Take a Closer Look at Brutalist Architecture 

An art installation that presents a 3/4 scale reconstruction of the Lincoln Campus Center hotel window façade panel, allowing the public to experience the beauty and formal grandeur of a Marcel Breuer’s architecture.  This event occurs during Family Weekend at UMass Amherst and is organized in collaboration with the following:  UMass Fine Arts Center Art Walk (3pm – 6pm); the Joy of Art After Party with Laudable productions (6pm – 9pm); and the UMass Student Life Pond Fire (6pm – 9pm). Installation designed and constructed by by Colleen Tully ‘G24.

Dr. Anna Dempsey, Professor of Art History, University of Massachusetts, is the Co-Principal Investigator (PI) for the UMassBrut grant. Allison J. Cywin, Librarian and Director of the Visual & Media Literacy Hub (VML) at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.

UMassBrut Honored with 2022 Docomomo Modernism in America Award of Excellence in the Inventory/Survey Category

UMassBRUT was honored with a 2022 Docomomo Modernism in America Award of Excellence in the Inventory/Survey Category and, on November 3rd, six members of the Executive Committee traveled to New York to accept the award in person.

projection mapping event with the Bromery Center for the Arts celebrating

our Brutalist architecture and featuring artwork by a UMass Dartmouth

professor and UMass Amherst graduate student, Lincoln Nemetz Carlson.

UMassBrut receives Docomomo U.S. 2022 Modernism in American Architecture Award of Excellence

The award recognizes the testament to the dedication and foresight of those who recognize the value of preserving our modern  architectural heritage. 

Award ceremony is Thursday, November 3, 2022 in New York City
