About Us

UMassBrut History

After years of individual endeavors on each campus to promote its modernist architecture, UMass Dartmouth and UMass Amherst joined forces to create UMassBrut. In 2019, this collaborative advocacy group of faculty members, staff, students, alumni, and interested parties dedicated to celebrating, preserving, and re-imagining our mid-century Brutalist public architecture was formed.

Mission

Our mission is to raise awareness of the relevance and international significance of Brutalist architectural heritage across the UMass System. To achieve this goal, UMassBrut sponsors a series public and scholarly activities and events that promotes the importance of these architectural icons and highlight the critical need to preserve them now and for future generations.

UMASS BRUT COMMITTEE

The UMassBRUT Executive Committee aims to hold regular meetings, maintain a social media presence, host annual tours, and plan engaging events, activities, and symposium. Most importantly, we continue to educate and raise appreciation for the architecture of these two landmark campuses along with our sister campuses in Lowell and Boston.
