Dr. David Castleberry

Artistic Director,

West Virginia Symphony Chorus

Dr. David Castleberry is associate dean of the College of Fine Arts at Marshall University and director of choral activities at the university. He joined the Symphony Chorus in 2009 and has prepared the chorus for performances including Brahms Requiem, Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, Handel's Messiah, and Ernest Bloch's Sacred Service, to name a few.

He has served as president of the Southern Division of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA). He also has served twice as president of the West Virginia ACDA. and is a member of the Editorial Board of Choral Journal, a monthly publication of ACDA. Well known in the choral field for his articles published on a number of topics, he is presently at work on a text dealing with the conductor’s varied roles in preparation, rehearsal, and performance of choral music.

Castleberry earned his B.A. degree from Furman University and his M.A. and D.M.A. degrees from the University of Texas at Austin.
