Easy Ship Stands

Many gamers/collectors have cool custom stands or re-purpose old SSB stands but if you need something simple and functional try this.

1. You will need:

· Lara's Crafts 1 and 1/2 inch wood discs (see note on the brand)

· 1/8 Inch wooden rod

· Pencil sharpener or hobby knife

· 1/8 drill bit and drill

· Black spray paint

2. Cut the 1/8 inch wooden rod into lengths to hold the ship off the stand (around 1 inch, but you can play around to see what works best)

3. Sharpen the cut rod lengths on each end as you would sharpen a pencil with a pencil sharpener or hobby knife (doesn't need to be too sharp just a little bevel on each end)

4. Drill a 1/8 inch hole in the center of the disc

5. Force the cut wooden rod into the disc (the sharpened end allows it to entered and the tight fit will hold it without glue)

6. Paint the stands if desired

7. The top of the beveled rod will fit SSB ships and the tight fit holds them in place.

NOTE:

I like this brand of wood disc for a few reasons:

· it is thick enough to keep most class II, III, and IV ships stable (some wood disc are really thin and flimsy)

· the 1 and 1/2 inch size is a nice "in-between" size compared to the original SSB bases which doesn't look to far off on any ship class except the Class I

· Although the bag of 20 cost $3 or 4; You can usually get a 50% off coupon for Michaels that makes them around $0.20 each
