PARKS OF THE INNER WEST – PART TWO

Having aborted our January 11 walk due to asbestos-ridden garden mulch, we resume our investigation of the new parklands associated with the underground Rozelle Road Interchange, tweaked so that we finish again at White Bay Power Station, but this time it will be OPEN!

Let's meet at the seating outside Platform 1 at Central Station Grand Concourse, at 10am.

We'll take the light rail to Wentworth Park, for the foreshore walk, which you've probably done before, then to the varied Whites Creek valley and the Interchange parklands, finishing at the (free) newly opened power station exhibition – part of the 2024 Biennale of Sydney.

About 5km of walking, with ample early-exit options.

Any bus outside the power station will have you back to the city in ten minutes.

Bring, morning tea, lunch, sun protection & water.

Grade: Easy, with one steep climb

Enquiries: Kevin – 9819 6052

Date - around mid-June - watch this space

THE 2024 SCOG MYSTERY BUSHWALK

Adding a little mystery to our bushwalking, starting with the date!

There's not much Cumberland Plain Woodland left around Sydney. Today's 7.5 km walk will penetrate some of it... 20% virgin or regrowth forest, 60% parkland & 20% suburbia. The forest is home to 62 bird species, 13 reptiles & 6 mammals, and a recently discovered new species of silverfish! There have also been reports of deer, foxes and feral cats, along with the native and introduced plants. Some of the Eucalypts are reported to pre-date European settlement. Did we mention the now standard SCOG hole in the Cyclone wire fence?

Grade – easy and flat – about 7.5 km

Meet at the seats outside Platform 1 of Central Station's Grand Concourse at 10 am, in order to catch the 10.18 Lithgow train. Full walk details will be provided on the train.

Bring - morning tea, lunch, water and clothing appropriate to the weather.

Leader & enquiries – that's part of the mystery.

YOUR WALK or ACTIVITY - in your favourite area

To submit details of a walk or activity you'd like to lead, include them in an email to SCOG at southern.cross.outdoors.group@gmail.com

Are you thinking of putting on a walk or activity?   The SCOG Committee would be delighted to hear from people that would like to participate and plan a walk or activity.  New walk leaders are especially welcome.  The choices for walks are unlimited... it may be in the area you live in, or an area you always wanted to walk in or get to know.  It could be urban, or a City walk, walking to a beach, bush tracks, national parks in Sydney and surrounds. Walks where there is public transport nearby would be preferable.  However a walk where cars are needed are also good.  If you need help our team can help you plan.  We can do a "Recce" (reconnoitre) with you before the day, and come along to assist on that day.  Think about it, we would love to hear from you.  Please e-mail southern.cross.outdoors.group@gmail.com

Send an email here to subscribe to our email list on Google Groups to be kept up-to-date and be sent reminders of activities to your inbox.
