What Do You Want In A Career?

Facilitator's notes: (JL)

At the March 15, 2016 JobSeekers meeting, we collected a list of characteristics to evaluate against a selection of career alternatives. I asked the members to rate each characteristic according to their personal preferences:

0 Not important at all

1 Somewhat important

2 Important

3 Very important

I'm envisioning a Pugh Matrix, with the characteristics listed vertically, and career alternatives horizontally, so that the jobseeker can rate each alternative by each characteristic, and score the alternatives appropriately. I'll probably prepare a sample table, and a downloadable spreadsheet. In the meantime, I'll just capture the list of characteristics, here:

Money

Location

Personal Recognition

Advancement Opportunity

Long Term Stability

Satisfaction

Nice Office

Societal Benefit

Team, vs. Solo Work

Strong vs. Weak Oversight

Work / Life Balance

Educational Opportunity

Industry Growth Trend

Fun At Work

Amount of Travel

Good Fit to Education (added after 5-APR-16 meeting)
