BRIEF CV
Prof. (Dr.) Nayan Kamal Bhattacharyya is currently serving as Associate Director (Student Affairs) and Professor & Head, Department of Chemistry, Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology. He has 20 years teaching and research experience at Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT).
He has completed his B.Sc. degree in Chemistry (Major) from Jorhat Institute of Science and Technology, Jorhat (formerly Science College, Govt. of Assam) (1996), M.Sc. degree in Organic Chemistry from Gauhati University (1998) and Ph.D. degree from Dibrugarh University in the year 2004 (He worked for his Ph.D. at CSIR - North East Institute of Science and Technology, Jorhat, Assam). He was CSIR - SRF awardee during his Ph.D. work. He also worked in a project funded by Department of Biotechnology, New Delhi, at CSIR - NEIST, Jorhat, Assam.
Prof. Bhattacharyya is also the Head, Alumni Engagement Cell, SMIT and President, SMIT Alumni Association. He is Chairperson of SMU Collaborations & International Affairs Committee. He was the former Chairman Admission of SMIT during 2013-16. Presently, he is also the Chairperson of Institute Scholarship Committee.
He had held the various administrative posts like Deputy Chairman Admission, Department T&P officer, Hostel Warden, Department Time Table officer etc. He is also the Chairperson of various committees constituted by the Institute/University from time to time.
Prof. Bhattacharyya visited TU Delft University, The Netherlands, during 15-31 March 2009 for a Training Programme on Nanotechnology to establish an International Centre of Nano Technology at SMIT. He also participated in the Synergic Manipal Integrated Leadership Engagement Programme (SMILE) (Both Phase I and II) organized by Manipal Group.
He was the recipient of "SMU Pride Award - Excellence in Teaching - 2019" from Sikkim Manipal University. He was also the recipient of "Faculty of the month award" of SMIT during January 2021.
He has organized number of Conferences, Refresher course, Workshop, FDP, Leadership Summit, Alumni Meet etc. as Coordinator at SMIT.
He has published a number of research papers in reputed peer reviewed international / national journals as well as presented research papers in various national and international conferences. Prof. Bhattacharyya has also completed research projects funded by AICTE. He has also received TMA Pai University Research Major Grant in 2022 (SMU).
His research areas of interest include Natural Product Chemistry, Synthetic Organic Chemistry and Nanomaterials. He is also the reviewer of various peer reviewed international journals. A number of research scholars are pursuing their PhD degree under his supervision. He has also successfully supervised many M.Sc. projects.
He is life member of The Indian Science Congress Association, Association of Chemistry Teachers (ACT) and Indian Society of Chemists & Biologists. He is also the EC member of ACT.

Professional Training:
