have your photo taken - on Sat 22nd, 10am-12noon.

BEFORE THE BIG DAY: Name our sheep

Our Sheep doesn’t have a name so we are asking for your suggestions.

Write on a piece of paper: your name and a contact phone number

and your suggestion for the Sheep’s name.

Post your suggestion in the Sheep Post Box which will be in

the Village Hall from the 1st - 8th October

St. Helen’s School from the 10th - 14th October

After School Bible Club at the Mission on 14th October 3.30-4.30pm

The winning name will be chosen and the winner invited along to

‘Dress’ our Sheep on Saturday 22nd at 10am

Everyone who takes part will have their name on bunting in the village,

so you trail around the village to find yours.

Our Sheep needs a new outfit each week, so if you’d like to knit, crochet

or sew something to keep our Sheep happy then please let us know.

Groups

More details about all groups are in the Groups Supplement that was distributed with the September edition of the newsletter.
Extra copies are available on the Back Copies page.

Longhorsley WI

Our September speaker was John Sadler, a British Historian who specialises in Anglo Scottish conflicts. He gave us a very comprehensive talk on the Border Wars and the Reivers, who were from both sides of the Border. John's companion had brought along a LongSword and demonstrated fighting with it. It was these swords which had given the English advantage in battle.

At our next meeting on Thursday 6th October, at 7.30pm, we look forward to hearing Bill Devonshire talk about Gardens of Northumberland. If you would like to come along you would be very welcome.

Wingates Bridge Club

Wingates Bridge Club plays in person at the village hall. It meets in person every Tuesday from 7.30pm - though we may decide to play online later in the autumn. If that happens, the club will return to the hall at the end of the winter.

New members of all levels are very welcome, newcomers to bridge in particular. Don't be worried about skill levels - this is a very sociable club and lessons will be given. A basic knowledge of whist is helpful but not essential. The club will be organising a try-outs evening soon.

And members who've dropped out will be warmly welcomed back, too.

Do come along - it is a genuinely fun game.

Neil Fowler 07770 641385 neildfowler1@aol.com is the main contact, but also Robert Famelton robertfamelton@gmail.com.

Longhorsley Local History Society

The History Society had a fascinating talk in September from Phil Rivett on the POW camp at Wooler. We learnt about the life of a POW in this country as compared to that in Germany and about how many of them integrated into the local community.
