Deborah Boyle

Following the passing of Deborah on the 30th July, I have been overwhelmed by the love and support from the village. I want to thank everyone who sent a sympathy card, made a donation to St Oswald’s Hospice or paid a tribute to Deborah via the Journal Obituaries site.

It means so much to know how caring you all are. This is the reason Deborah and I moved to Longhorsley, to be part of a close community and I just want to say how grateful I am. My life will never be the same again, but at least I have the comfort of living in the most beautiful village in Northumberland.

Poppy Bombing

The Royal British Legion was formed in 1921 and, as this year is the centenary, Longhorsley Women’s Institute and Embroidery Group are currently working together to knit and crochet poppies to display around the Village Green over the Remembrance week in November.

Having just lived through a period of about 18 months where village hall group activities had to be curtailed, it is hoped that this communal creativity will bring people together and cause a smile.

Any donations of knitted or crochet poppies would be greatly appreciated.

Village Halls History Project

Community Action Northumberland are running a project aimed at recording the history of the village halls in the county.

As part of this, Longhorsley Village Hall is conducting an oral history project looking at recording the memories of the villagers about the village hall, its building, what there was for the community prior and any interesting stories around the hall, personal, or community.

If you would like to participate, a member of the team will record your memories on tape which will then be held by the county archives for posterity. You will also receive a CD of your recording for you to keep.

If you are interested please contact either Garry Ritchie 07713 583311 garry7256@aol.com or Liz Elliott 07791 604166 liz2@ascuk.com
