Covid Rules

Gov.UK Guidance National lockdown: Stay at Home was updated on March 22nd with a new section - How the rules will change on 29 March.

The government has published the ‘COVID-19 Response - Spring 2021’ (full detail) setting out the roadmap out of the current lockdown for England.

This explains how the restrictions included in this guidance will be lifted over time.

England is still in a national lockdown.

You must stay at home, leaving only where permitted by law, and follow the rules in this guidance.

From 8 March, the legally permitted reasons to leave home include to:

• exercise, or for outdoor recreation in a public outdoor space - this can be on your own, with your household or support bubble or with one other person (in which case you should stay 2m apart. You should minimise the amount of time spent outside your home, and you should not travel outside your local area.

• attend school or further education

From 1 April, if you have been identified as clinically extremely vulnerable you will no longer be advised to shield. However, you should continue to take extra precautions to protect yourself. It is important that you continue to keep the number of social interactions that you have low and try to limit the amount of time you spend in settings where you are unable to maintain social distancing. If you are in this group, you will previously have received a letter from the NHS or from your GP telling you this. Contact your local authority or speak to your GP if you have any concerns.

• attend university or other higher education - for those eligible

• attend, or take a child to, childcare - for those eligible

From 8 March limited care home visits will be allowed.

Each resident should be asked to nominate a “single named visitor” who can make indoor visits regularly. These visitors will need to take a rapid lateral flow test provided by the care home, and receive a negative result before each visit. Physical contact should be kept to a minimum. The visitor may wish to hold hands with the care home resident but should be aware that any physical contact increases the risk of infection. Close physical contact, including hugging, should not happen.

For more details see the Care home visits section.

How the rules will change on 29 March

From 29 March:

• you will be able to meet outdoors either in a group of 6 (from any number of households), or in a group of any size from up to 2 households (each household can include existing support bubbles, if eligible)

• you will be able to take part in formally organised outdoor sports with any number of people (outdoor sports venues and facilities will be able to reopen)

• childcare and supervised activities will be allowed outdoors for all children

• formally organised parent and child groups will be able to take place outdoors for up to 15 attendees. Children under 5 will not be not counted in this number
