1/4/17: Overhaul of cosplay gallery, lots of new HP essays

Post date: Jan 04, 2017 8:33:51 PM

I made an unsuccessful foray into the world of adulting, and fell completely behind in updating everything. But, now having had some time on my hands, I updated both the cosplay gallery (giving it the first major overhaul in years) and the bibliography. So...

Cosplay Gallery Updates

The side navigation pane of the cosplay site, which had been a wonderful feature when there were less than twenty costumes in the gallery, had become completely unwieldy as my number of costumes skyrocketed past 80. It was just no longer helpful to have to scroll through all that. Without having an ideal solution, I took all the Harry Potter costumes (44 of them) and collapsed them under an HP category, not to mention listing them out in a coherent order as opposed to order of cosplay: Harry Potter. The Disney category was also getting slightly unwieldy, so I broke it up by year like I did the HP ones, ie. Disney 2016 The other categories were left as is, with the navigation pane having a tolerable 50ish entries, but I might continue to shift to this kind of layout as I continue cosplaying.

Talking of HP, there is a boatload of new costumes: Mundungus Fletcher and Marietta Edgecombe

I cosplayed my first ghost: Bloody Baron

I started cosplaying fantastic beasts: Doxy and Phoenix

In non-HP cosplay news...

For Disney, I cosplayed Lilo of Lilo & Stitch and Ron Stoppable from Kim Possible. I also achieved one of my all-time cosplay goals with Little Mermaid's Ursula

For other book series...

Anthony Lockwood from Lockwood & Co by Jonathan Stroud

Carswell Thorne from The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer, which made it into Publisher's Weekly!!

And finally, because Pokemon is all the rage, my Halloween costume was Jessie.

Bibliography Updates

With a rejuvenated HP fandom and a lot of new material coming our way, I've been very busy writing! While the bibliography is not wholly up-to-date on everything, it is updated with all the HP essays I've been churning out.

There are five exciting new essays about the new film in my new Fantastic Beasts section of Editorials!

Before all the crazy new material was released, I did a deep dive into canon about Lavender Brown: Lav-Lav the Misunderstood

The Cursed Canon Conundrum outlines the issues the Potter fandom had with figuring out the place of Cursed Child in the canon. I take a step back to outline the arguments, before contributing my two cents at the end (it's a hot mess and not canon).

The Final Straw was my response to Jo and Pottermore selling e-books of their content... and I was not pleased.

More updates to follow when I get my act together, but that's quite enough to be getting on with. I'll do better in 2017!
