Native Forests in a Changing Environment
Speaker: Dr Cate Macinnis-Ng, Senior Lecturer and Rutherford Discovery Fellow, School of Biological Sciences, University of Auckland.
New Zealand’s native plant species are adapted to a highly changeable climate. Yet as extreme events such as droughts, floods, storms and fires become more common under climate change, our unique flora will come under increasing stress. In this talk, Cate will explain the different types of approaches we can use to measure and predict the impacts of climate change on the vegetation of Aotearoa. She will talk about her current research with reference to the broader international literature.
Dr Cate Macinnis-Ng is Senior Lecturer and Rutherford Discovery Fellow in the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Auckland. She is a plant ecophysiologist
interested in interactions between plants and their environment. Her current research focus is exploring the impact of drought on kauri forest in the Kauri Drought Experiment but she is also interested in broader impacts of climate change on plant water use and carbon uptake across the country.
