November 1st

8.00pm: Stipa Steppes to Alpine Meadows: A snapshot of Central Europe’s Botany

Speaker: Bec Stanley, Botanist, Auckland Council, Regional Botanic Gardens

Bec spent part of the NZ winter this year in central/eastern Europe attending conferences in Kyiv (Ukraine), Berlin (Germany) and Geneva (Switzerland) sponsored by the Friends of Auckland Botanic Gardens.

This talk will share botanical highlights of her trip including the famed Eden Project (and the “Palms” of Cornwall), the threatened Stipa Steppe grasslands of Ukraine, green roofs of Berlin, alpine meadows in France, plants of the Carpathian Mountains in Poland and the forests of the “black triangle” in the Czech Republic. The talk will touch on some of the 17 public gardens visited but focus on the wild natural places of this region.
