Christianity
I identify myself as a Christian, which, I believe, requires some explanation as to what that means and what that does not mean.
It means:
I believe there is a God who created the universe. That this belief may be erroneous, I readily admit. However, I find it hard to explain existence and purpose if the universe just is.
I believe that God loves all people.
I believe that God somehow became one of us in the person of Jesus of Nazareth, in order to help us understand who God is and what our response to that should be.
It does not mean:
It does not mean I reject science and believe wacky things like people co-existed with dinosaurs or that the Earth is only a few thousand years old.
It does not mean that I think everything in the Bible is literally true. It clearly is not.
It does not mean that I think right-wing political parties are God's ordained leaders. Indeed, Christianity as I see it has nothing to do with politics. (But, as an observation, I find Jesus' teachings much more in line with many of the views of left-wing political parties.)
It does not mean that I think my "right" to ...(do whatever)... is more important than the lives of the elderly and vulnerable. So, when the public health experts and epidemiologists tell me to wear a mask and practice physical distancing, I will do just that.
