There are literally hundreds of models of RECREATIONAL and TOURING KAYAKS out there in the market and it can get very confusing trying to figure out which craft is best for you. Following is a small selection of our favourites that either offer great value for money or are just so darned good we couldn't leave them out.
Old Town Loon 111

Easily propelled, the Loon 111 sit-in kayak features a large cockpit with plenty of forward room for storage (or even a small child), an integral flotation tank and a high back folding seat. Excellent stability and accurate tracking make this the ideal kayak for paddling on lakes, dams and rivers. These features also make the Loon 111 an excellent fishing kayak, but without the hefty price associated with many of the fully kitted out fishing craft.

This Aussie made kayak has a sleek hull and long waterline length for great acceleration, speed and tracking and makes it the ideal choice for covering longer distances with ease. It has a basic fitout, but you do get a hatch and bulkhead to keep your gear dry. Some feel its traditional shape is "old fashioned" and maybe this is why it is not as popular as it deserves to be. This kayak is best suited to long distance paddles on protected waterways.

The Australian made Discovery 13 is just the right size for explorers wanting enough speed to keep up with the pack, but don't want a kayak that's too long to stop them from easily getting into those tight side creeks. This boat is stable, tracks well and has a fit-out that is comfortable enough for all day paddling. It has front deck bungy to hold maps etc as well as a rear hatch/bulkhead to keep your gear dry. Also available in an Expedition version with high quality flip-over rudder system.
