Q: Am I a good fit to be a guest at HVBA?

A: If you are willing to help our students progress in their education, you are a good fit!  We ask that you keep in mind that this is an educational facility and the clinic is an extension of the classroom.  The students that are providing your service will make mistakes from time to time.  If you are the type of person who is in a hurry, are very particular, are not okay getting something that isn't exactly what you asked for, or you have absolutely ANY reservations about a student performing your service, a salon might be more in line with your expectations.  Although we want you to be absolutely happy, the students and their education are the main priority of HVBA.

Q: Can I give the student direction?

A: We ask that you refrain from giving the students any direction during your service.  They will receive all direction from their educators.  If you feel that the student needs direction, please ask them to grab an educator.

Q:  Does HVBA accept walk-in clients?

A:  For now, HVBA only accepts clients by appointment.  You can schedule an appointment by walking in or calling (734) 470-6536.

Q:  How long can I expect my appointment to take?

A:  All services are performed by students.  All students develop their skills and speed at different rates.  Because of this, we do not guarantee that your appointment will end after a certain amount of time has passed.  As a general rule, you can expect haircut and style appointments to take at least 2 hours, and color appointments to last for at least 3 hours.

Q:  How much supervision does the student have?

A:  There are 1 or 2 educators that are supervising up to 20 students on the clinic.  The students are required to get an educator for at least 3 checks throughout your appointment.

Q:  Can I bring other people to my appointment?

A:  Due to keeping distractions to a minimum, and to keep our clinic safe for everyone, anyone not receiving a service will not be allowed on the clinic floor.  Parents can wait for children receiving a service in the waiting area up front.  No child under 12 will be allowed to wait unattended in the waiting area.

Q:  What if I am late?

A:  If you are going to be late to your appointment, we ask that you call us and let us know.  If you are going to be more than 15 minutes late, we reserve the right to reschedule your appointment.

Q:  What if I am not happy with my hair?

A:  All guests sign a waiver when they sign in for their appointments.  Students are performing the services and mistakes do happen from time to time during the education process.  If the student makes a mistake, an educator will do their best to correct the mistake.  Guests may call and return within 2 weeks of their original appointment for a "redo" appointment.  *We never guarantee how light your hair will get during a lightening service.  This would not qualify as a redo.

Q: Can I tip my student for my service?

A: Absolutely!  Tips are appreciated, but never expected.  You may tip your student in cash.  We are a cashless business and only accept cards for payment of services.  Tips cannot be added to cards.  We do not have any cash in the building, and cannot make change or break bills for you to leave a tip.

Q: Can I pay with cash or check?

A: No cash or checks will be accepted. We are operating on a cashless model.  The only forms of payment that we can accept for services are Visa, Mastercard, AMEX, and Discover.

Q: What color line / products do you use?

A: We use all-nutrient for our haircolor, lightener, shampoo and conditioner, and all of our styling products.

Q: What if I have allergies?

A: If you have known allergies, please let your service provider and an educator know.  We will perform a patch test to confirm that you are not allergic to our products before we can service you.

Q: How do I get a refund?

A: We do not provide refunds for services that have already been rendered.  If there is an issue with your service that needs to be addressed, you may return within 14 days of your original service appointment, and an educator will determine whether or not a redo service is necessary.

Q: Why are your services so cost friendly?

A: We are a high school cosmetology program.  Students are performing the services under the supervision of an educator.  Cosmetology schools offer services for a cheaper price than you will pay in a salon.  This is mainly due to the fact that a licensed professional is not the person performing the service.  Please be aware that you are donating yourself to the education of others.  If you are very particular about what you like and the final results that you end up with, a traditional salon might be a better fit for your expectations than a cosmetology school.
